I used Bockingford 140lb Cold Pressed watercolour paper to make a 5" x 7" card blank and painted my pears using Quinacridone Gold, Permanent Sap Green, Alizarin Crimson and Olive Green paints from Winsor & Newton's Professional Watercolour range.
The teacher, Dawn Woleslagle, used the inside of a Wplus9 die to draw
her rows of pears. However I don't own those dies,
so I made a stencil by stamping an image of a pear onto thickish card and
cutting out the centre. A wet on wet technique was used to paint the pears, enabling the colours to merge together in a variety of ways. The
stems and leaves were painted in freehand.
Again I decided not to add a sentiment to my card - but I can always add one at a later date if needed. I am really pleased with how this turned out. The colours are a little more delicate than they were for my previous apple card and I love the subtle look that this gives.

Thanks for looking,

Wow!! I love this card Lynn! So effective, and I adore watercolour cards, and always seem to forget this medium myself when doing cards - you've inspired me to do more. Is the watercolour paper you use a smooth finish? The type I have seems to have a slight linen/canvas effect so sometimes I find it not smooth enough. Must research some smoother stock xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Michelle. I used Cold Pressed paper for this, but it has a rough texture and isn't suitable for all card types. Hot pressed watercolour paper has a much smoother finish and is more suited to card making, especially if you want to stamp on it too. I knew that I wasn't going to stamp a sentiment onto these cards and I have more of the Cold pressed paper, so that's why I chose to use it. I'm guessing that I would have been able to get smoother edges to my fruit if I hadn't used the textured paper though. I have recently bought some Arches Hot Pressed paper (which was quite expensive), so I'll let you know how I go on when I try it out.
DeleteLynn this is gorgeous, I love the subtle colouring and the composition. Great idea to use dies as a template too but your improvisation worked really well. Not sure that I could bear to use this as a card though - I would want to frame it. xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you Jenni x

ReplyDeleteThank you Lana. I'm really getting into watercolouring now and looking forward to doing some more soon x
